returning from the other side of the first Noël

          "the first Easter"

"and waves which only He may walk
Who dares to call Himself a man."
    --- e.e. cummings

. . . and the waiting in darkness drove her divinely mad
thus she never grew weary silver-grey

then the first to see into the eyes
to touch the side
to know His presence
stop weeping and instead bathe
in the fountain of youth
was a sister of the moon . . .

day begins breaking bounds
when yet it was dark
stars melting into halflight
dew drops on the grass & lilly
the fragrance from a full moon
falling free over the rolling tombstone

she sees the sun rise

all absorbed in the sunrise
rise up rise up with wings on a lark
and light that lasts for ever

so the sister of the sun
and the savior of the moon
hand in hand
wiped free of pagan blood
and the weight of heavy indecision

beyond the garden
above the dust
(and why do only a few remain
above the dust
when inspired by the breath of the Lord never to expire)
arm in arm
they are rising
to any plane
they can imagine
(like Cathy & Heathcliff
on earth as it is in Heaven)
riding on the rhythm
of reborn days
over waves
only they may waltz
and never grow weary
