"reacting to Hoffman's last scene"
1/ Each soul is stellar indeed a star is borne
There is no pain in being
born to be alive
pre-sent - no audition required
despairing from not really living
the part you are gifted for
like an actor out of a play
existence out of breath
2/
Tragedy is a sympton not the source
upstage that addiction
rulers casting themselves in the role of lovers
extras prescribed as impromptu
pain killers numb down to finale
free as false balcony vows
no Wonder
the heartless performance
bit parts lack pulse thumbs down
a trapdoor for Death to crawl up for a cameo op
not written in the script
3/
Not one of us makes a clean sweep
and sometimes across the wrong stage
each casts a shadow of doubt
turning down parts written just for you
in the drama of the moment
even the Superstar had His
then suffering became a source
for the joy of Inspiration
no child left prodigal from a compassion play
4/
Reach exceeding mezzanine heights
being too alive
the joy so real
the intensity of paracosm
unrehearsed upon this globe
experimental en plein air
following cues ahead of time
theater not in the round
it gets uneven reviews
5/ Dim the marquee lights
a bright phantom gesture
to pretend the end
for all the body is but a stage
for the One man production
directing the exit from this opera
with an ecstatic finale to Entrance
Universal reversal
spread the rave review
that all has been
a dress rehearsal
for an infinite run off broadway
arrival above the red carpet
and no curtains
for real actors
