Mexican Songs

#1 Post by BobBradshaw » 25 Sep 2019, 21:22

Mexican Songs

Spanish music is spilling over
from my neighbor's yard.

Is it a sad love song?
It sounds bluesy, as if

it concerns a cactus
sharpening her needles,

one that holds grudges
for decades--

like my ex.
She always feels bound

to stick me with some
barb.

These songs
are about my life:

the songwriter never met me,
but he knows

my heartaches
as well as he knows

the coins
in his pocket.

He pulls them out
and ponders the weight

of them in his palm,
a currency

that crosses all
borders.

I relate to the Spanish songs, but I think Mexican works better. Then we know it’s Spanish and I see the lyrics playing out in Mexico. Good poem. I too like the part Ken mentioned.
