At Black Balsam, I make six thousand feet;
this is where the Cherokee say God
lives in a cave with his wife, dances
naked around a fire until there's a vision.
Whatever he sees, he paints on the walls
and it becomes the future.
When I was a kid, I saw lightning
form below, storm cloud moving
through the valley like a black fish,
the dispensation of rain and life,
storm and fire, darkness and thunder.
God cutting a rug with his sweetie.

Good from start to finish. No criticisms. The surprise ending delights. A nom from me. Hope you and Billy will accept.

Hi Ken,
Should that be with an apostrophe: Devil's
Your poem brought to my mind these closing lines lines from Edgar Allan Poe's "Alone:"
"In its autumn tint of gold—
From the lightning in the sky
As it pass’d me flying by—
From the thunder, and the storm—
And the cloud that took the form
(When the rest of Heaven was blue)"
Of a demon in my view—
