Mr. Lonely Looks For Love in Garage Sales

A statuesque figure whose breasts
glint in the sun, Aphrodite

lounges in a tub of water,
a martini glass on the night stand beside her.

The garage sale owner quotes a price
and another young man strolls over

leering. Quickly
I empty my pockets,

and carry her off in my arms,
as if carrying a bride

upstairs to a honeymoon suite.
A month later I'm obsessed

with her faux marble surface,
the chips, the discoloration,

the coldness that exudes from her.
I obsess the way I did

before I divorced,
when I would have done anything

to shed myself of a woman
beautiful but terribly
flawed
