Love Lingers Long

#1 Post by dyerfrank » 21 Dec 2013, 22:45

Love lingers long
springs into the mind long after you had gone

I thought after you had left
There would be nothing
no memory or feelings
a thing that just happens
People come and go

As I tended my garden
and swept the Autumn leaves
that rustled in their golden hues
A cold north wind blew
and drove them into a corner
a neglected part of my domain

I wanted you to come that moment
walking through the gate
accompanied by your gay laughter
followed by your bouncing hair
sleek and silken from the wash
I would melt into your mouth
Swallowed up by your perfect teeth
and rush like a thousand white torrents
of sparkling foam exhausting itself on
a shallow falling shore

Love lingers long
I relinquished tending my garden
chose to dwell in a land of sweet thought
bringing up memories
sifting them for pleasure
re-living moments like a favourite film
re-playing highlighted scenes
to dwell on what might have be
or worse what could still be

Do not people die frequently
life carries on without them
their shadows walk no more
Like a former rulers of Russia
obliterated from the official photographs
Why should they care, how could they know?
that love lingers long
will not die, never sleeps, ever comes to mind
How could they know?

Love linger long
bringing darkness and despair
I walk a barren shoreline
save for cast-up logs and seaweed
torn by the waves and fishermen's buoys
that lay scattered by the rising tide
My steps sank into the sodden sand
and thought: 'This is my life now!'
If only I could stop
and lay my head upon your tender breast
to smell your perfumed garden
and rest
but, love lingers long
and gives no rest
