Upcoming April IBPC 2018:

#1 Post by Michael (MV) » 29 Mar 2018, 05:59

Voice your recommendation(s) here, and

Please let us know ASAP if you are not going to be available to represent the Writer's Block -

then we will know not to consider your poems further this month's IBPC.

I/we will be looking for consensus - in keeping with a communal workshop environment

Which 1-3 would we like to see represent the Writer's Block in the finals?

After the 3 are selected, then will each author post - in this thread - the poem as the poet would like it forwarded,

and ALL the needed info/statements

Ideally, the only poems that really need to appear here are the final 3, when announced, hopefully by the 1st of January, if not sooner

^^ the intent is organizational - if poems appear here before the selection of the final 3, then there is a congestion -

Until the final 3 are announced, please maintain poems & workshopping to the Workshop Forum. Thanks.

************

any newcomers or returnees this month, Welcome!

and here is a home link to the IBPC rules: http://ibpc.webdelsol.com/rules

In this thread, from the poems posted in the workshop forum during the course of the month, recommend/nominate by title & author.

Nominated poets, please acknowledge the nomination here in this thread.
Please reply by accepting or declining the nomination - in this thread.

Please note & observe: This is not a workshopping thread.

In this thread, poems that are ultimately selected to represent the Block are then posted here
as the author would like for the poem to be forwarded
along with all IBPC required info.

When the 1-3 poems are decided upon, and permission granted by each author of the selected poems,

along with all the info needed by each author:

1/Your name

2/e-mail address

3/statement that the poem is your original

4/and unpublished work

5/and that you are not representing in the current IBPC

6/and the poem as you would like it forwarded to the finals.

^^ All of the above is the usual needed info as part of the process.

I will then forward the 1-3 to the IBPC finals.

Thanks

Gratefully accepting the nom for Camille Claudel.

my original work, not representing any other board and unpublished.

Bernard Henrie

She watched Debussy like a bird
with a morsel.

I felt hypnotized by the rhythmic
hammers of his piano, the burl wood
bathed my face like candlelight.

When he showed me Camille’s gift,
a sculpture named La Valse---
dancers frozen in a moment of joy;
I felt the electro-magnetism so many
talked about that year.

The couple do not quite touch,
but I thought myself spying on them
in the boudoir; oh, the heat.

The sculpture opened hidden corners
of my heart, I felt a sudden envy,
unable to look away, or admit jealousy.

That gift never left a display place
in his bedroom. Did I imagine the wild
chestnut fragrance of her clothes?

Debussy was dying of rectal cancer,
and she was also failing.

She stopped bathing, destroyed
her work and became a recluse.
We say des esseinbtes.

A few years passed, Debussy died
and Camille’s mother sent her
to an asylum.

On a whim, I visited Camille.
His name opened her asylum to me
but not to her cell, we never spoke.

I watched her escort a dwarf
and a disabled patient outdoors,
motherly, no longer raging,
no longer angry. Her voice carried
across the courtyard, a metallic
rasp.

She remained locked-up
for thirty years, never working again.
Her beauty wore down like a marble
sculpture outside for years.

And my anger also wore down,
Baudelaire wrote,
“Sounds and scents
turn on the evening air"
these words offer a static calm.
I follow the ebb tide of my heart,
swept away and inevitably
swept back.

Thanks for the nomination Bernie.

Dale Patterson

my poem is original, unpublished and not represented in current IBPC

The Direction I Walk in the Morning

My left leg is longer than the right,
orthopedic shoes keep me level.

I meet an old friend
at Fourth Street Cafe,
step with a burled maple cane.

Bill’s Viet Nam ball cap, brightly
embroidered,101st Airborne,
tilts on his head.

We sit near the coat rack.
Soiled dishes rattle the well
of a stainless steel pushcart.
A damp kitchen rag, used
to wipe tables
and red vinyl benches,
drapes on its handle.

A young Irish girl,
who call us her boys, pours water
and places our flatware
on white paper mats.

Bill pushes his fork to the side,
covers my hand with thin fragile fingers.
I feel the cut stone on his Masonic ring,
the way it fits loose in the bezel.

He speaks a low gospel,
a voice with a settling gloom,
my wife wants to die.

The wall mounted fan
grinds back-and-forth spraying aromas,
bacon and eggs,
onions and peppers,
simmering coffee.

And what do I say
when lips are sewn closed
and frail touch exhumes jealous anger?

An old film chatters in my mind,
I have never been bold with a women,
never been married?

Bill releases my hand.
My foot has gone numb
in my damn 4F boot.

Update re Upcoming April IBPC 2018:

#9 Post by Michael (MV) » 05 Apr 2018, 10:38

Except for bernie's Camille Claudel poem, I'm not seeing a 2nd or 3rd for any of the other poems.

So, bernie's Camille Claudel poem is 1 of the 3 to represent WB this IBPC.

And, bernie, which one of Bob's poems are you nominating? Was it The Potato Eaters? Thanks.

And, Bob, are you available in the possiblity to represent the WB? Thanks.

So that I don't solely have to select a 2nd & 3rd, please 2nd & 3rd the recommendations.

ASAP Please

Thank you Michael.

This is my original work
and is not representing any other IBPC forum.
It has not been published
Ieuan ap Hywel
ieuanaphywel@aol.com

My poem is below:

Waiting for a bus at Armarnath Temple

I take a bite from my pastie. A yogi, brown as betel
juice, stands next to me, near naked save
for an umbrella, people bow to the divine in him.

A bell tings from within the Temple, a tinge
of regret, I have no faith, I cannot conceive
of a pantheon made in the images of beasts.

A pretty girl flits like a butterfly
around vapour rising from a dung heap,
spotless in her lemon dress.

There is a queue for the kerbside barber,
he wags his head as Hindus do, he grins
as I caress my two days growth.

My expresso comes in a cardboard cup, courtesy
of the bus stop coffee shop, a broken down van,
sans wheels, sans engine, a surfeit of rust.

Sahrinda comes like a floating white shawl,
to wrap me in tenderness, her camisole pulls
my eyes to the soft swell of her breasts.

Our bus looms out of the New Delhi smog,
a red double decker, shaking and puffing
like an aged Loch Ness monster.
