Upcoming July IBPC 2019:

#1 Post by Michael (MV) » 28 Jun 2019, 17:31

Voice your recommendation(s) here, and

Please let us know ASAP if you are not going to be available to represent the Writer's Block -

then we will know not to consider your poems further for this month's IBPC.

I/we will be looking for consensus - in keeping with a communal workshop environment

Which 1-3 would we like to see represent the Writer's Block in the finals?

After the 3 are selected, then will each author post - in this thread - the poem as the poet would like it forwarded,

and ALL the needed info/statements

Ideally, the only poems that really need to appear here are the final 3, when announced, hopefully by the 1st of the month, if not sooner

^^ the intent is organizational - if poems appear here before the selection of the final 3, then there is a congestion -

Until the final 3 are announced, please maintain poems & workshopping to the Workshop Forum. Thanks.

************

any newcomers or returnees this month, Welcome!

and here is a home link to the IBPC rules: http://ibpc.webdelsol.com/rules

In this thread, from the poems posted in the workshop forum during the course of the month, recommend/nominate by title & author.

Nominated poets, please acknowledge the nomination here in this thread.
Please reply by accepting or declining the nomination - in this thread.

Please note & observe: This is not a workshopping thread.

In this thread, poems that are ultimately selected to represent the Block are then posted here
as the author would like for the poem to be forwarded
along with all IBPC required info.

When the 1-3 poems are decided upon, and permission granted by each author of the selected poems,

along with all the info needed by each author:

1/Your name

2/e-mail address

3/statement that the poem is your original

4/and unpublished work

5/and that you don't have a poem committed to represent another board in the current IBPC. One poet one poem one board
for each monthly,

6/and the poem as you would like it forwarded to the finals.

^^ All of the above is the usual needed info as part of the process.

I will then forward the 1-3 to the IBPC finals.

Thanks

My nominations:

1. Bob's: Traveling Mexico

2. Michael's: Getting Antique

3. Siva's: Newlyweds

If it is allowable to nominate more than three, then:

4. Meena's: Kali
5. Eira's: Patches Revenge

Pity Billy has pulled out.
Eira hasn't posted this month that I can see.

Thanks Frank, for the initial nom-nod; and Thanks, Bob, for the 2nd.

I, Michael (MV), accept the nom-nod re my "antique" poem -

and even if I don't represent this time, I am honored that Frank, and Bob, find my poem an IBPC contender.

Thanks again to you both

I 2nd, Bob's, Children from a Burn Ward Tour Monterey Bay Aquarium,

although I unconditionally workshop suggest abbreviating the title to:

Children Touring Monterey Bay Aquarium

or

Touring Monterey Bay Aquarium

^^ the circumstances of the children are detailed in the poem.

Thanks Kenneth,

I see now that Siva's Newlyweds poem has 3 nominations.

Still there is time to 2nd your Escher poem. I was hoping someone else would, then I could 3rd it.

So here at this time, I am 2nding Kenneth's Escher poem, because I believe it is a IBPC contender, and, too, he has accepted the initial nomination:

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7557#p35491

Anyone encouraged to 3rd Kenneth's Escher poem?

ChildrenTour Monterey Bay Aquarium

I dream of waving to my public, a blue diver
nosing up to the aquarium's glass
with her ruby gloves and neon tank.

Slowly, as if she's too cool to be hurried,
she cleans the glass with a squeegee,
a tiger shark cruising behind her.

Two bottlenose dolphins
hover over her shoulders,
as if expecting a selfie.

A harbor seal rushes up to kiss her.

Like my friends on the burn ward,
I would trade a lifetime of desserts
to be swimming in an indigo suit.

'Newlyweds Start Life in the House of the Groom's Parents' is my original poem and I am not representing any other board,or submitting it elsewhere. This has never been published before and my email id is --sivajkamivelliangiri@gmail.com
I consent to send it to the IBPC.

"Newlyweds Start Life in the House of the Groom's Parents"

The partitioned Madras Terrace house
was just right for a family of three.

But the bride's family insisted on an attached bathroom
and not one of those vacant rooms.

So with the son getting married, a store room
adjacent to the bedroom.was transformed to a bathroom.

The girl's father ruminated, now that there is a bedroom
with an attached bath and the boy has also waited

for thirty two years, he said, 'yes' to the friends of friends,
‘let them come.’ And they came to 'see' the bride.

From the bride's side they not only saw the path leading to the house
taking hordes of relatives, they saw for themselves that there are copses

of trees that keep you cool, specially the neem, and many more ancient ones;
there was also the sea breeze which carries the salt spray.

The daughter-in-law entered the small and neat
kitchen. She wondered if the tavas and pans of her dowry

would fit into this self sufficient kitchen, and where the
rice flour liquid dough was stored to ferment, she had no clue.

Grandmother came in a wheel chair and said ,‘
’how like her own mother’s house it looked:

I kept thinking how long will this old house stand
before changing shape, a pentagonal room for the children, perhaps.

Instead, the girl, stayed back in her paternal house
and the boy came to live with her for ever after.
