A Nice Old Man

A Nice Old Man

Is that what I've become?
No more excitement.
What a relief. This must be

a taste of heaven.
I'm getting closer
to a place I've never

thought much about
until now. Hummingbirds
thrill me hovering

at the kitchen window
looking at me. A hug
from my grandson.
The excitement of knowing

that he will be here soon,
play with the nicest old man
in the world, so he says.

Sweet poem about a relationship with ones grand.
A touch of kindly irony at the end, from the old man
who knows the reality of his own being.

Very sweet. As a grandfather I relate totally with this.
