New York Write to Pitch 2022 - Observations

#1 Post by WritersBlock » 01 Jun 2022, 00:14

DISCUSSION COMMENCING AT 4 pm EST

Putting out the call to NY Pitch alums registered here at the Writer's Block. Awaiting your thoughts on the https://newyorkwritetopitch.com. As the lead at the top of the page states:
The New York Write to Pitch 2022 programs, together with the event's experienced faculty, provoke aspiring authors into developing, refining, and pitching their novels in such a manner as to greatly increase their chances of becoming published...
This sounds a lot like the New York Pitch Conference, so YAY! with that, but what makes this a "Version 2.0"? I need to investigate this further but life has been distracting the hell out of me.

Pushing forward.

Married, kids, new job in San Diego. Eight drafts of three novels. You know.

I think the key to Version 2.0 is made clearer on the schedule page https://newyorkwritetopitch.com/NYWP-Schedule.htm. There's more emphasis on development and it's all laid out point by point. There's a lot there. Wow!

It's daunting. Reminds you of what it takes to write a good novel.

And hello to all of you!

This looks different you guys. A scroll down on the Schedule page.
3. Prose Narrative Models

In preparation for the reading of first pages by event faculty, writers log into Algonkian Author Connect and utilize the New York Write to Pitch forum. Once there, they click on the Guidelines and Criteria for Prose Narrative, read the enhancement notes, then utilize them to rewrite their current first pages prior to the start of the conference.

Following the read and editorial comments on these pages conducted later by conference faculty, the writers will possess a model of competitive prose narrative they can reference and apply for the remainder of the novel.

Okay, that formalizes reviews of actual pages plus more development method and details in general. :!:

Gadzooks! It's amazing. Several gallons of this was spread around the New York Pitch site, but this bakes it into a single pie cut in half -- part in Benefits and part in Schedule.

Well done lads and lasses!

And don't ask me why I'm using the same ID pic.

I'll bet you don't say "Gadzooks!" in public. But come to think of it, I was witness to one in New York years ago

Yeah, he was talking to me and said, "Gadzooks, lad!"

Sorry I missed the party. I've just applied for the September Write to Pitch 2022.

I've paged through the whole New York Write to Pitch 2022 website and it's stunning, succinct, and does a great job of highlighting all the stuff that the event offers writers. And btw, has anyone heard that Neff is putting together a kindle e-book that combines all the novel development and prose enhancement pieces?

Btw, good to see you fabulous peeps!

Been married and divorced since you saw me last. I got the china. He got the trip to China

Haven't heard that, but sounds unique. A writer conference with it's own e-book.

Not a lot of conferences left standing in New York after Covid. Algonkian held on though. I was in Michael's workshop last June.

I've read much of this already, but after buying a copy and doing a quick overview, there's definitely new material added.
